This guide is based on official data from ANAH (National Housing Agency), the Ministry of Ecological Transition, and the France Rénov' public service to present the MaPrimeRénov' scheme as it applies in 2026.
What is MaPrimeRénov'?
MaPrimeRénov' is the main public aid for energy renovation of homes in France. Created in 2020 to replace the CITE (Tax Credit for Energy Transition), it is managed by ANAH and accessible to all property owners, whether they are occupants or landlords. According to ANAH figures, more than 1.5 million cases have been funded since the scheme's launch.
The principle is simple: direct financial aid, paid after energy renovation work is completed on a property more than 15 years old (or more than 2 years in the case of replacing an oil boiler).
Eligibility conditions in 2026
Who can benefit?
- Owner-occupants: the property must be the main residence, occupied for at least 8 months per year.
- Landlord-owners: up to 3 rental properties, with a commitment to rent the property as a main residence for at least 6 years.
- Co-ownership buildings: via the MaPrimeRénov' Co-ownership scheme, for work on common areas.
The property must have been built at least 15 years ago (2 years for replacement of an oil or gas boiler). There is no minimum income requirement: all households are eligible, but the amount of aid varies according to income.
2026 income ceilings
ANAH classifies households into four categories, determined by the household's tax reference income (RFR) and household composition:
| Category | 1 person (Île-de-France) | 1 person (outside ÎdF) |
|---|---|---|
| Very modest (Blue) | ≤ €23,541 | ≤ €17,009 |
| Modest (Yellow) | ≤ €28,657 | ≤ €21,805 |
| Intermediate (Purple) | ≤ €40,018 | ≤ €30,549 |
| Superior (Pink) | > €40,018 | > €30,549 |
For each additional person in the household, ceilings increase according to a scale published annually by ANAH. Ceilings are revised annually to account for inflation.
Amounts by type of work
MaPrimeRénov' by measure (single measure)
Since the 2024 reform, the single-measure path is refocused on decarbonized heating and hot water equipment:
| Type of work | Blue household | Yellow household | Purple household | Pink household |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air/water heat pump | €5,000 | €4,000 | €3,000 | — |
| Pellet boiler | €7,000 | €5,500 | €3,000 | — |
| Combined solar system | €10,000 | €8,000 | €4,000 | — |
| Pellet stove | €2,500 | €2,000 | €1,000 | — |
| Thermodynamic water heater | €1,200 | €800 | €400 | — |
Households in the Pink category (higher incomes) are no longer eligible for single measures as of 2024. Insulation alone (walls, roofing, windows) is no longer subsidized as a single measure.
MaPrimeRénov' Supported pathway (major renovation)
This scheme finances comprehensive renovations with a gain of at least 2 energy classes on the EPC. It is the most generous scheme:
- Very modest households: up to €63,000 in aid (90% of the net work amount capped at €70,000)
- Modest households: up to €54,000 (75% of the cap)
- Intermediate households: up to €42,000 (60% of the cap)
- Superior households: up to €30,000 (40% of the cap)
A 10% bonus is awarded in case of exit from thermal poor performance (moving from an F or G rating to D or better). According to ADEME, a major renovation can reduce energy bills by 40 to 70% on average.
Steps to submit an application
Step 1: energy diagnosis
Have an energy audit (mandatory for the supported pathway) or EPC carried out by a certified RGE diagnostician. Average cost: €100 to €150 for an EPC, €800 to €1,500 for an audit (partially covered by MaPrimeRénov').
Step 2: contact a Rénov' Advisor
For the supported pathway, the use of a Rénov' Advisor approved by ANAH is mandatory. This single point of contact helps define the project, select RGE contractors, and prepare the file. The France Rénov' network has over 550 Advice Centers throughout the country (source: France Rénov').
Step 3: choose RGE contractors
Work must be carried out by professionals certified RGE (Recognized Environmental Guarantee). The official directory can be found on france-renov.gouv.fr. It is recommended to request at least 2 to 3 quotes to compare offers.
Step 4: submit the file online
The application is made on maprimerenov.gouv.fr. Documents to provide:
- Tax assessment notice (latest fiscal year)
- Quotes from RGE contractors
- Energy audit or EPC
- Proof of ownership
The average processing time is 4 to 6 weeks according to ANAH. Aid is paid after work is completed, upon presentation of invoices.
Step 5: carry out the work and receive the aid
Once the subsidy is approved, work must be completed within 1 year (extendable once). An advance of 70% can be requested by very modest households to facilitate financing.
Combining with other aid
MaPrimeRénov' can be combined with:
- Energy Savings Certificates (CEE) offered by energy suppliers
- Zero-interest eco-loan (eco-PTZ) up to €50,000
- Aid from local authorities (regions, departments, municipalities)
- Reduced VAT at 5.5% on energy renovation work
However, combining with CITE is no longer possible since it has been discontinued.
